Personality

Fera is a quite the displeasure to be around, being impractical, smug, and sarcastic to anyone who has unluckily run into her. She will almost always find a way to complain about anything she can find to complain about, constantly making a fuss over anything that isn’t done her way. She tends to be dominant, rarely submitting to anyone’s authority unless she feels that it would benefit her, and wouldn’t affect her pride. She doesn’t believe that she could ever be wrong, and won’t easily admit it if she is. She is stubborn on her decisions, and is almost never unsure of her actions.
Her stubbornness and narcissism is her main weak point. She doesn’t care who or what is affected by her actions, as long as she gets what she wants. She could lose a finger and would probably still continue with her choice.
Despite her inflexibility and her ability to come out as very brash, she does think through her decisions. What she chooses to do is usually thought out thoroughly before started, weighing every outcome and difficulties which could come up. This may be why others tend to follow her lead, because her decisions are planned. They just forget she doesn’t care about casualties.
She is blunt and insensitive, and doesn’t care for others’ feelings. regardless of this, she is pretty open to help those who ask for help. But she helps them very half-heartedly, unless there’s a reward involved.
in spite of the fact she has now been described as a total grump, she smiles a majority of the time. Yes, the only time she is not smiling is when she is doing some serious complaining, or when she’s frustrated with something. She also –even though she doesn’t show it – loves the company of others. Though being alone is just as pleasurable.
When around others, she tends to talk a lot. It’s mostly science, math, or just plain trying to make everyone look stupid. She’s very touchy-feely, always grabbing shoulders and tapping backs. She doesn’t like to be touched back.
She believes “what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is also mine”, and often uses others’ belongings without asking, or just steals them (she likes to call it long-term borrowing).
If you were to help her in a way that she couldn't help herself, she would have the need to owe you. She doesn't like it, but she won't let a good deed go unrewarded.

Background


Fera used to be a scientist who researched new chemicals and elements that could be used as weaponry and energy sources. She was very happy with her job, and always jumped on a chance to discover new things. In her spare time, she loved to use what she learned to create different types of weapons, the majority of them being bombs.
Not many Irken scientists found Fera great to work with, because she was selfish, arrogant, annoying, and just not a pleasant being. Irken scientists she has worked with could tell she preferred solitude over large groups, and was not good with teamwork.
Fera was not a well-known scientist however, and was rarely commissioned to do work for the empire. And when she was, she never declined.
She was asked to create a chemical that could turn any average Irken into a super weapon, and she would be paid royally. Not daring to refuse such an offer, she accepted and hired a crew of scientists to help her create this serum.
She worked with this crew for a very long time, until she thought she had finally created it. It was a black, gross looking substance. The other scientists tried to convince Fera to test the substance on a captured Vort, and she refused. She believed they needed to test it on an Irken, because of how different Vortians and Irkens are biochemically. And she did not trust her crew enough to test it on one of them. So she injected it into herself, and changes were almost immediate and painful.
The chemical mutated and multiplied, like expected. It began to force her natural blood out of her, like it was supposed to do. Most of the other mutations were not anticipated. Her spine and body elongated (she was originally shorter than she is now), the spines now visible from the back. Her eyes became a much darker green. She lost much of her upper body strength, and gained much leg power (it was supposed to be magnified for both arms and legs, but it went wrong).
Fera was hospitalized for many years, always undergoing pains and migraines due to her changing body trying to fix itself. She began to babble all the time, seeming to have forgotten what had happened, and why she was this way. She began to hang her antenna down instead of perked up. She began to talk about how the armada seemed to be very ludicrous, which crossed the line for the doctors taking care of her. She was then marked to be deactivated and put out of her misery.
Fera did not want to be shut down, so she put a bomb in her hidden pockets in her clothes, and when she got to the control brain, she tossed the bomb, which created enough of a distraction for her to escape. She fled to Megondia, where she now lives in an abandoned factory.

Fera does seem to have a little bit of an accent. The best way to describe it is that it sounds similar to someone who is plugging their nose while they talk. It is best heard when she is saying um. Instead of um, she pronounces it “ahm”. Her voice is a bit higher pitched than most voices, and is very harsh.

Fera loves mechanics. She is fascinated by any kind of machine, whether it is robots or toasters. If she finds a new kind of robot/mechanical device, she has a need to take it apart and rebuild it and study its design.
Fera has a fear of Snakes, where she just shrieks when she sees one. When it touches her, she shudders and refuses to move. Where this fear came to be is unknown.
She dislikes lightning, but isn't afraid of it
She has a fetish for spiders/arachnid like creatures. Like her fear of snakes, no one knows what sparked this interest and why.
She uses goggles while working on machinery, it measures heat, and can list many different objects and their properties.
She is cold blooded.

I'm really happy with this design! I really liked the idea of curling her antenna, I think it looks good, even if it's common. The piercings were always so hard to draw, I'm glad they are gone. same with the stripe. her forehead looked empty before, but when I drew her more, I got used to it (:
